Who we are

La Vida was founded in May of 1991. It is owned and operated by Mrs. Phoola Mackintosh (SRN) / Matron and Mr. Dhruv Sooklal. (Manager)

Mrs. Mackintosh is an English trained nurse with over 60 years of experience. She has worked in various hospitals and nursing homes as well as private companies like Hand Anorld Limited and Johnson and Johnson Limited.

Mr. Sooklal has been in business management for the last 44 years and has always worked in the private sector. 

It had always been the dream of Nurse Mackintosh to run her own business and the opportunity arose in 1991 when she partnered with her nephew Mr. Sooklal to open La Vida Convalescent and Geriatric Nursing Home. 

La Vida has a staff of over 20 individuals including Nurses Aides, Cooks, Cleaners and a handyman and gardner. All of the Geriatric Nurses' Aids go through a probationary period of training at La Vida regardless of their qualifications and experience. 

We are now one of the longest established homes in the central area and have looked after thousands of elderly patients. This year marks our 34th year in operation and we still have some of our original staff with us. 

Nurse Mackintosh resides on the compound and is available 24/7 and our doctors reside in close proximity as well. This makes it easier in an emergency situation when a Doctor or Registered Nurse is needed.

The facility is situated on an acre of land. We have many fruit trees which the patients enjoy when in season as well as adequate off road parking for visitors. Our visiting hours are from 9am to 7pm every day. Special arrangements can be made for those needing to visit outside of these hours.

We are governed and licensed by the Ministry of Health, and inspected annually.
